Greenagers Summer Program at Mt. Everett

IMG_6518This summer, Greenagers is hosting a summer day camp for SBRSD middle school students. This program will run Mondays through Thursdays from 9am-3pm starting July 5th and ending August 4th. Through this program, we hope to introduce participants to the trails, farms, and conservation lands of the Southern Berkshires. Activities will include hikes, canoeing, farm visits, and service projects with our community partners.

Farm Apprenticeship Position: Open Now

We have a job opportunity working on a farm just south of Sheffield on Rt. 41. The job description includes everything from vegetable garden maintenance, harvesting and selling at local markets, trail work, cattle management, fence and pasture maintenance, and weed whacking. This job includes many aspects of agriculture, livestock, and woods management. Hourly rate is $10-$12, depending on experience. Yard to Table: Greenagers’ Front Lawn Food program seeks donors to support family gardens — and to receive a Donor Garden of their own

Greenagers is transforming the farm-to-table movement to something even better: “Yard-to-Table” food for all — and it’s time to sign up for the 2016 planting season!

For the second year, Greenagers’ is expanding its “Front Lawn Food” program for wider availability to families and businesses, in South County and in the Pittsfield area, in partnership with the Berkshire Community Action Council.

In addition to constructing and planting gardens for income-qualified families with young children, Greenagers “Donor Gardens” — now in its second year — enable Greenagers and BCAC to offering broader access to geographical and demographic availability of gardens for home-grown food. Greenagers Trail Crews are off and running!

Three out of five Greenagers Trail Crews started work today: two Berkshire County crews and one Columbia County crew. The remaining two crews begin work a week from today. We are so excited for this year’s crews and the fun, challenging, and rewarding work ahead of them.

We will continue to update this site with news on the crews’ whereabouts and work, so continue to check back in!

Greenagers get griphoist training

“It’s the size of a mini-bus, there’s no way we’re moving it” asserted Elia Del Molino, Trails Coordinator at Greenagers. “I’ll take that bet” countered Mike Leavitt, Trails and Outreach Coordinator from Berkshire Natural Rources Council (BNRC). The friendly bet, which Elia ultimately lost, was in reference to a 10-ton boulder—a sizable piece of gneiss that would be moved by one person wielding but one grip hoist. The situation was one of the many impressive and daunting challenges poised at last week’s Greenager Grip Hoist Training.

Front Lawn Food 2015

YouthNEW! Greenagers is beginning an exciting new partnership with the Revolution Garden Project in order to better address the complex issues of food insecurity through Front Lawn Foods.
