THE FRONT LAWN FOOD PROGRAM ENCOURAGES LOCAL FAMILIES TO GROW THEIR OWN ORGANIC VEGGIES.
COVID-19 UPDATE: We are confident that programs like Front Lawn Food are needed now more than ever, so we are moving forward with our 2020 season. That being said, we are taking safety precautions very seriously and will not be installing gardens with our usual team of local teens. Please be patient with us as we try to navigate this program amid very new circumstances. Scheduling will be delayed and we have a lot more planning to do, but we are excited to provide our community with access to fresh food.
The Front Lawn Food program, in collaboration with Berkshire Community Action Council, encourages local families to grow their own organic veggies. Garden beds are constructed and installed by Greenagers staff and youth, with summertime advice and periodic garden check-ins available to garden owners. Included in the purchase price of a garden, is the donation of a garden to a local family in need. Each garden is composed of one 4’x8′ raised bed (8 inches tall), built from locally-sourced wood and filled with an organic soil/compost mix. Garden beds are planted with organic seeds and starts of your choice. Each bed converts into a winter greenhouse for year-round growing.
The total cost of the two beds (one to be donated), fully installed and planted out, is $600.

Donated Gardens are available to income-eligible families with children at home and senior citizens. Priority is given to families with children. Garden recipients must be full-time residents of Berkshire County and committed to the care and maintenance of the garden.
