Well, it’s been a fantastic summer. 20 youth in total engaged in our Community Work Initiative – with 16 of these youth working every week, Monday through Wednesday, on local trails and farms. The Trail and Farm Crews had their last day on Wednesday, August 24th. The crews worked together at Community Cooperative Farm and were joined by Berkshire Co-op members. A delicious lunch was provided by the Co-op. Our Summer Young Farmer program operated in collaboration with Railroad Street Youth Project which donated staff time, transportation, and two resume writing sessions with the incomparable Sheela Clary – thank you RSYP!
In eight weeks of work, the youth and their leaders contributed over 3,000 hours of labor to this community working on the following trails and farms:
Berkshire Natural Resources Council’s Alford Springs Property, Housatonic River Walk, Lake Mansfield Association, French Park, Farm Girl Farm, Moon in the Pond Farm, Project Sprout, The Granary, Indian Line Farm, Foggy River Farm, Goose Pond (GB Trails & Greenways), Woven Roots Farm, Community Cooperative Farm. A huge thank you to these community entities for the great work they do.
