The Greenagers Summer Work Crew is a summer employment program for local youth. This program focuses on providing a cohesive, respectful, and skillful work crew to local trails, conservation, and farm organizations. The work crew consists of 6-8 youth ages 15-20 and one skilled leader with a minimum of 3 years field experience.
Greenagers will be offering positions on the Community Work Crew and on our Appalachian Trail Crew for 2012. The Community Work Crew will work Monday through Wednesday starting July 2 (we will work July 5th instead of July 4th) and ending August 24th. The Appalachian Trail Crew will work M-F starting July 9th and ending August 3rd.
Participants are allowed three sick/personal days during the program. Each workday begins at 8:30am at the Greenagers office located at 33 Rossetter St. in Great Barrington. There will be a 10 minute break at 10:30; 30 minute break at 12:30 and a 10 minute break at 2:30. We will return to the Greenagers office by 5pm each workday.
Workers are expected to be ready to leave the Greenagers office at 8:30am with proper clothing, footwear, water, and lunch. A work pack with extra shorts/pants, sunscreen, and bug repellant is required. There will be days when pants are required.
Some of the skills involved include rock work, soil work, hand tool work, plant and tree identification, farming skills and methods, trail maintenance methods, invasive species mitigation, and more. You are not expected to have these skills, but you are expected to be willing to learn them. There will be no power tool operation by minors.
We expect a consistent work ethic, respectfulness toward fellow workers and host sites, and a positive attitude.
