Front Lawn Food

The Front Lawn Food program encourages local families to grow their own organic veggies.

The Front Lawn Food program, in collaboration with Berkshire Community Action Council, encourages local families to grow their own organic veggies. Garden beds are constructed and installed by Greenagers staff and youth, with summertime advice and periodic garden check-ins available to garden owners. Included in the purchase price of a garden, is the donation of a garden to a local family in need. The Front Lawn Food order form can be completed online here.

Each garden is composed of one 4’x8′ raised bed, built from locally-sourced wood and filled with an organic soil/compost mix. Garden beds are planted with organic seeds and starts of your choice. Each bed converts into a winter greenhouse for year-round growing.

bookGarden recipients also receive a gardening resource book, “Week-by-Week Vegetable Gardener’s Handbook” by local authors Ron Kujawski and Jennifer Kujawski.

Donated Gardens are available to income-eligible families with children at home and senior citizens. Priority is given to families with children. Garden recipients must be full-time residents of Berkshire County and committed to the care and maintenance of the garden.
