Build Trail Kiosks for Local Trails

Tuesday, October 9th and Wednesday, October 10th, 2:30-5 pm: Learn how to build trail kiosks with Greenagers! Led by Will Conklin, the workshops will incorporate timberframing techniques; the result will be beautiful kiosks, contructed from locally sourced and milled lumber, for the Monterey Preservation Land Trust and the Appalachian Mountain Club. Volunteer on the Trails!

Join Simon’s Rock students and Greenagers this Saturday, September 29th, for a day of work on local trails. This is part of Rock the Community, an opportunity for Simon’s Rock students to give back to the community.  We’ll be working on trails for four local organizations: River Walk, Lake Mansfield (GBLC), Sheffield Land Trust, and the Appalachian Mountain Club. The day will be broken into two sessions: River Walk and Lake Mansfield from 9-12 and Sheffield Land Trust and AMC from 1-4.

Volunteer on the River Walk

Join Greenagers and the Environmental Law Coalition (Western New England School of Law) for work on the River Walk. Projects to include coir log installation and erosion control – a very important day of work to be done! Saturday, November 3rd, from 9:30 to 3:30. Meet at the Dubois River Garden at the intersection of River and Church Streets in Great Barrington.

Greenagers Summer Work Crew: Now accepting applications for the 2012 season.

The Greenagers Summer Work Crew is a summer employment program for local youth. This program focuses on providing a cohesive, respectful, and skillful work crew to local trails, conservation, and farm organizations. The work crew consists of 6-8 youth ages 15-20 and one skilled leader with a minimum of 3 years field experience. Front Lawn Food 2012

FRONT LAWN FOOD
It is Front Lawn Food season again – hooray! For those of you not familiar with this program (now in its third year), Greenagers provides ten organic vegetable gardens to South County families each year. Gardens comprise three 3′ x 8′ raised beds (boxes are constructed of locally harvested and milled lumber) and are planted with a bountiful array of veggies and herbs. Gardens are installed and planted by Greenagers youth and community volunteers. This year, garden recipients will also receive a gardening handbook complete with gardening tips, soil information, and healthy and tasty recipes for preparing the garden produce. Sustainable Forestry & Draft Animal Power

This winter Greenagers will collaborate with the Trustees of Reservations and Great Barrington Trails and Greenways to offer an exciting workshop series involving draft animal power in forestry. We will work with local oxen, horses and their teamsters to pull logs out of the forest and mill them on-site for use on-site. The workshops will interweave the history of draft power, forest ecology, and sustainable lumber harvesting within the workday. Continue reading “Sustainable Forestry & Draft Animal Power”

Holiday Hike on Sunday, December 11th

Greenagers will be leading a hike at the beautiful Bash Bish Falls this Sunday, December 11th.  We’ll be meeting at the Greenagers office at 33 Rossetter Street in Great Barrington. at 12 noon.  All are welcome! Berkshire Grown’s Holiday Farmers’ Markets 2011

Berkshire Grown will host the third annual Holiday Farmers’ Markets, scheduled for Great Barrington on November 19, the Saturday before Thanksgiving and December 17th, the Saturday before Christmas.
